Fifteenth edition, to which is prefixed an account of his life; 12mo; engrav. frontis; title printed in red and black; 12 engrav.;many engrav. head and tailpieces and capitals; contemp. calf gt (calf very rubbed and worn); jts splitting head and tail of spine worn; bp on pastedown; sm piece missing from 2nd fr eps some manuscript on title; a line of manuscript appears on the falling pages 18, 22, 31, 41, 105, 153, 183, 185, and in the margin 189, 192; many pp have sm. ink marks, but none really affecting text; there is a hole in the engraving and title of the second book; a tear partially repaired pp167-69; 1 engrav trimmed tight to plt On title is written in West Shrewsbury School, October 5th 1840, inscribed on rear pastdown is "1000 lines for out of bounds by the column Shrewsbury with Bowine on Sunday - c2000 lines for being found (by Kennedy) at The Raven 1841." Most lines of manuscript in text read "began on and date." It would appear that the Shrewsbury school boy to which the text belonged wrote out many lines of Milton in the year 1841
